Hey, want to enter one of the UK's biggest writing competitions?
You're in luck! As an early Christmas treat for aspiring writers, and to give all you NaNoWriMo fans a little more time, we've extended the deadline of the Times/Chicken House Children's Fiction Competition to Wednesday 20th December.
Our comp is one of the biggest writing competitions in the UK for unpublished children's authors, with a coveted first prize of a £10,000 publishing contract! (Yep, you heard that right.)
No matter where you are in the world, if you're over 18 and you've written a fresh and exciting story for young people: WE WANT TO READ IT! The competition has launched the careers of loads of the UK's best children's and YA writers, with Sophia Bennett, Tom Ellen & Lucy Ivison and Anna Day to name a few.
But hey, don't just take our word for it. Here's what some previous winners and shortlistees had to say ...
'Entering this competition is one of the best decisions I ever made. I was unpublished, unagented, unheard of, and now I've just sold my 25th licence....and I didn't even win!' Anna Day, author of Chicken House's fastest-ever-selling rights title The Fandom, shortlisted in 2014
'Since 2014, we've had three books published, seen them translated into more than ten languages, and spoken at literary events from Hay-on-Wye to Utrecht, and it is basically all thanks to the Times/Chicken House competition.' Tom Ellen, co-author of Lobsters, Never Evers and Freshers, shortlisted for 2013 competition
'Entering the Times/Chicken House Competition in 2016 was one of the best things I ever did. It kick-started a whole chain of incredible events. So I'd say if you have a story that fires you with passion, press that button and watch the magic unfold.' Jasbinder Bilan, author of Song of the Mountain, 2017 winner
Plus, 'cause she's such a good egg, our Editorial Director Rachel Leyshon is sharing the secrets of how to get that story into tip-top condition for our team of readers.
So then: what are you waiting for?! Get submitting! You can find everything you need over on our submissions page. Could you be our next winner?
