WIN: A signed copy of Longbow Girl and a bunch of Chicken House books
We’re celebrating the publication of thrilling historical adventure Longbow Girl by Linda Davies with a creative writing competition – readers under 16 can enter for the chance to win some amazing prizes!
The competition asks readers aged 16 and under, who are in school, to describe which historical figure they’d like to travel back in time to meet. We’d love entries to be as creative and imaginative as possible! The winner will receive 20 Chicken House books for their school library, a signed paperback edition of Longbow Girl, and the opportunity to write an article for First News which will appear in print. Two runners-up will also win a signed copy of Longbow Girl!
Schoolgirl Merry faces the loss of her family’s farm. For centuries, the Owens have bred ponies in the shadow of the Black Castle, the wild Welsh home of their arch-enemies, the de Courcys.
In the roots of a storm-turned tree, she makes an extraordinary discovery: a treasure that offers her the chance to turn back time and change a past filled with untold secrets and danger.
Merry is brave enough for most things. She’s a skilled rider and archer: a born fighter. But is she ready for this, the greatest adventure of her life?
In partnership with First News, we’ve developed a digital historical resource pack for teachers, librarians and parents to distribute, consisting of a Henry VIII factsheet, accompanying quiz, sample chapter and competition template. The competition is open until Friday 23rd October, and you can download the resources from the First News site – make sure you read the T&Cs carefully before entering. Good luck!
